Applications open for our first conversion Masters degree in Software Engineering

  • Postgraduate Engineers on the degree will earn a salary starting at £27,000, pay no tuition fees, and have a job from day one.
  • Teaching is delivered by the Dyson Institute’s academic team and work is alongside world leading scientists and engineers.
  • The two-year programme is open to anyone with a 2:1 honours degree or above in a non-software engineering field.
  • After graduation, the Institute supports a seamless transition into a career at Dyson
  • Dyson has so far invested £60m in the Dyson Institute

Applications are open for the Dyson Institute’s first conversion Masters in Software Engineering degree, beginning September 2024. The MSc has been designed to encourage people from less traditional academic backgrounds into exciting careers in engineering.

The two-year conversion course covers a foundation in software with rotations in Dyson’s UK and global software teams. By opening more routes into engineering, Dyson hopes to foster creative ideas and diversity of thought that enables Dyson’s 6,500-strong engineering team to deliver world-leading technology for consumers.

“I studied the arts and classics but became an engineer and it has been the most fulfilling of careers. Software, combined with mechanical engineering is potent. But there are not enough software engineers, so we have taken matters into our own hands. This is a real job and a stretching education. It is not for the faint hearted, and those joining will achieve things they never thought possible.”

James Dyson
Founder

Graduates from the Dyson Institute are already leading significant engineering projects within Dyson around the world, from the US to South Korea and Singapore. They will be on track to be the future leaders of Dyson.

Software at Dyson now includes connectivity, machine learning, app development and embedded software, so finding potential software engineers from the variety of backgrounds is incredibly valuable.

As well as Dyson’s world-leading robotics labs in London, Hullavington and Singapore, Dyson’s commitment to software extends to a £100m investment in a major new Technology Centre in Bristol. This will be home to hundreds of software and AI engineers working on a pipeline of products that stretches 10 years into the future, as well as the global technology company’s commercial and ecommerce teams for Great Britain and Ireland.

The Dyson Institute invites applications from anyone with an undergraduate degree and no significant prior learning in computer science. Applications remain open until 21 April 2024.
