Academic Entry Requirements & Equivalent Qualifications


For September 2020 academic entry requirements are as follows:

A – Maths
A – STEM subject [Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Design & Technology (Product Design (3D), Systems and Control), Electronics, Engineering, Further Mathematics, Physics]
B – any subject

If you study Physics at A Level, or equivalent, we will expect you to achieve a minimum of a grade B, to demonstrate your aptitude for the subject. To apply without Physics, please see "Applying without Physics" for more information.


Equivalent Qualifications 

For equivalent qualifications for 2020 entry please see below.  If your qualification isn’t listed, please don't worry! Either submit an application or get in touch to check your equivalency.

34 to include 6,6 at a Higher Level in Mathematics and a Higher Level STEM subject and a third subject at Higher Level grade 5.

Cambridge Pre-U requirements have a direct equivalency
D3 in Maths, D3 in another STEM subject and M1/M2 in a third subject.

SQA Highers
A (Advanced Higher Maths), A (Advanced Higher in a STEM subject), A (Higher Maths), A (Higher STEM), BB (two additional Higher subjects) – AAB at Higher must be achieved within one year, by the end of S5.

European Baccalaureate
Overall average of 80% in the European Baccalaureate with 85% in Mathematics and a STEM subject.

BTEC Engineering
BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at DDD with grade A in A Level Maths.

Irish Leaving Certificate (Higher level)
H1 in Maths, H1 in a STEM subject, H2, H2, H3, H3.

French Baccalaureate(s)
A minimum score of 15/20 with an average score of 15/20 in Maths and two additional STEM subjects.

Diploma di Esame di Stato (Italy)
95% overall including 3 state examinations, including 14/15 in Maths.

Voorbereidend Wetenschappelijk Onderwijs (VWO)
A minimum of 7.5 out of 10.

Diploma Za Sredno Obrazovanie (Bulgaria)
An overall mark of 5.7 from 3 written state exams, including 5.8 in Maths written state exam. Language test qualifications will not be accepted in lieu of state exams.

Érettségi Viszga / Matura (Hungary):  
We require an overall grade of 5 (or average of over 80%) at the Intermediate level. We also require 80% or above in both Maths and a STEM subject (Biology, Chemistry or Physics) in the Advanced level exam in the final year of school.
